bojony.wordpress.com
The lawsuit was one of five filedr by Oakland in recent months accusing includingChase (NYSE: JPM) and , and several locaol real estate agents of violating an Oaklandf law that protects tenants from unjusr evictions. The city said tenants in foreclosed homes and apartmenta provided numerous examples of impropeer eviction notices theyhad received. Oakland’s so-called “Jusg Cause” ordinance allows landlords to evicyt tenants for specific reasons such as failing to pay rent ordamaginvg property. However, foreclosure is not a “jus cause” for eviction under the city’s law. Chasd agreed to a settlemeng that includesa $35,000 payment to the city.
The settlemenrt also includes an example of a legalp notice that banks can use to determine the occupanc y of a foreclosed propertyin Oakland. The Oakland Attorney’s Office is in settlementy negotiations withother defendants.
