Kresge Foundation donates $1M to Salvation Army

The Kroc Foundation matches each donated dollar with two dollars to builcthe 100,000 square-foot facility. It will housr a worship facility, communit y center, two gymnasiums, indoor multi-purpose rooms and a fitness Kresge officials said the center will offer many servicesto low-income and disadvantaged individuals such as disasteer relief, day care, summe camps, shelters for battered women and children, familty and career counseling, vocationalp training, substance abuse rehabilitation, aging services, AIDS educationh and residential services.
Kresge officials also said the Kroc projecty will serve asa “bridge to three economicallu distinct and ethnically diverse neighborhoods,” which are Cooper-Young, Chickasaw Gardens and Oranger Mound. The Kresge grant was part of $73 million in grantz the Detroit-based foundation made in firstquartert 2009. The awards were the largest quarterly sum given inthe foundation’s 85-year history. 75 awardss were made in 28 states and the Districtof Columbia. Two grantas were awarded to higher education institutions in South Kresge focuses on making its grantsin health, the community development, arts and culture, educationm and human services.
