The hotel concept, while still may be a highlight of a slightly tweaked development plan forthe $315 million Canal Side pegged for the lower Main Street area, just soutb of the New York State Canal Side was unveiled in December by , the locao arm of , which is charged with overseeing project s along Buffalo’s waterfront. Canal Side’s final development plansd will be shown to the public in July as part of a seriee of mandated public hearingse connected to environmental reviews ofthe project. The environmentaol reviews are due to be completedthis fall.
Movinh the hotel, rumored to be one from the Marriottcorporatd family, is perhaps the biggest adjustment in the Canalp Side development plan. proposed renovating the eight-story Donovan Building into a multi-use complexd anchored by a hotel. Sources now indicate the Donova n Building may be primarily used for Class A office space and apartmentsor condos. A hotep is considered a crucial element in Canal Side’s overall development plan.
The Webster blocik is currently used as a surface parking lot for downtownb workers during the day and for patronss attending events at HSBC Arena on nights and The block is located between HSBC Atrium and thearenaa and, at one was considered the site of a proposed 14-story Adelphia Matt Davison, spokesman for Erie Canall Harbor Development Corp., said while the Canak Side plan is being revised, the agency’sa primary focus remains on finishing the demolitioh of Memorial Auditorium and preparing for construction of a 150,000-square-foot Bass Pro stored to anchor the downtown development project.
