“I think the issue is, one, our clientws are poor, so they don’t exactly have a stront lobby, and since we’re not an agency of the state, we don’r have that kind of presence inthe Legislature,” Rochq says. “There’s no one really willing to take up the fightgfor us.” While directors of state agencies saw cuts of abouf 12 percent heading into the fiscal year that startws July 1, Rocha, the executive director of legal assistancre provider Law Access New Mexico, watched the totalk legislative appropriation to legal services fall 24 “For me, that meant a hit of which is the cost of a couple of attorneys,” said Rocha, who superviseds seven full-time and five part-time attorneys.
“That will impact us unless we can find anotherefunding source.”
