Wilmers, who was named to the post last is the second high ranking Empire State Development official to resign in thepast week. Marissa last week, left her post of presidentr and CEO forthe state’s primary economic developmen agency. Wilmers said his decision to leave the ESD post was directlhy tied tothe state’s financiall woes. New York is facing a projected $24.8 billiobn budget deficit this year. “The ongoing crisie in the financial sector and in the overalkl economy has imposed a burden of work that I did not Wilmers said in aprepareed statement. Dennis Mullen, the Rochester area business has been namedby Gov. Davidd Paterson as ESD’s chairman.
Mullen, last also assumed Lago’s duties. He had been ESD’s upstat e president. Mullen's appointment as ESD chairman, CEO and Departmen t of Economic Development Commissioner need New York state Senate approval. Paterson credited Wilmers for a unifyinand “strengthening the agency’s efforts to attract new businesses and spur local development.” There have been reports in the New York Timez that Wilmers clashed with Lago over direction of the state'as top economic development agency.
