Ann Bowers, the widow of Robert was a member ofthe school's board of trustees from 1986 through 1998, and said her donatio stems from her admiration for the SCU "I am very impressecd with Santa Clara University's emphasis on educating the wholr person," Bowers said. "The new core with its emphasis on social justice andstudent engagement, will help SCU students become leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion who will help make the world a bette r place.
" Bowers, who received an honorary doctorr of public service degree from Santa Clarwa in 2000, was the firsgt director of personnel for Santa Clara-based (NASDAQ:INTC), and then the firstr human resources vice presidengt for Cupertino-based (NASDAQ:AAPL). Later, she worked with the Silicon Vallety Joint VentureEducation Initiative. She is a senior trustee for the Noyce which funds programs for students and teacherain literacy, math, science, and technology. A portion of the funds are designated to support the Global Sociaol Benefit Incubator program runby SCU'sw Center for Science, Technology, and Society.
This on-campus residentialo program helps social benefit entrepreneurs from around the worlsd learnbusiness skills, scale their and achieve sustainability.
